Privacy

The short version

You can use Blend in a browser or as an iPhone app. Either way, it listens to you sing, and your voice never leaves your device. Pitch detection runs entirely in the browser or in the app, and no audio is uploaded or saved anywhere. What we keep is the score — which lessons you have cleared, how many stars, how far out of tune — and the account you keep it under.

Your microphone

When you start a lesson or a run, your browser asks permission to use the microphone. In the iPhone app, iOS asks the first time. If you grant it, the audio is analyzed in real time, inside the page or the app, to work out what pitch you are singing. That analysis happens on your own device, in your browser or on your phone.

No audio is transmitted to our servers. No audio is written to disk. Some rounds record your singing so they can play it back to you, for instance when you duet with yourself. Those recordings stay in your device's memory and are discarded when you move on. The only thing that survives is a number: how close your pitch was to the target. You can revoke microphone access at any time, in your browser settings or in your iPhone's Settings, and Dial is playable without a microphone at all.

What we store

• Your account. Email address and sign-in details, and your name, if you gave one. Clerk, our authentication provider, handles them. We do not see or store your password. For account security, Clerk also keeps the IP address of each sign-in and the approximate location that address points to.
• Your progress. Lessons cleared, stars earned, accuracy in cents, run scores, and which skills are due for review. This is one record per account.
• Leaderboard entries.If you submit a daily run, your display name and score appear on that day's public board. The name is the one on your account, or “Singer” and a number if it has none. It is never taken from your email address. Other players can report a name on the board.
• Reports. If you report a leaderboard entry, we keep which entry you reported and when, so that repeated reports can take it off the board.
• Subscription status. Whether you have an active plan. On the web, payments are processed by Stripe through Clerk. In the app, you subscribe through the App Store: Apple takes the payment, and RevenueCat keeps the record of your subscription under your account. We never see or store your card details.

If you play signed out, your progress is kept on your device, in your browser's local storage or in the app, and never sent anywhere. It is merged into your account if you later sign up.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of processors to run the service:

• Clerk — authentication, and subscription billing on the web.
• Stripe — payment processing on the web, via Clerk.
• Apple — App Store payments and subscriptions.
• RevenueCat — the records of App Store subscriptions, filed under your Blend account ID, and the subscription charts we see from them.
• Neon — the database your progress is stored in.
• Vercel — hosting and server logs.
• Sentry — crash reports from the iPhone app: what went wrong and where in the app, with the phone model and iOS version. They carry no account ID, email address or recording.
• Apart from RevenueCat's subscription charts, we do not use an analytics service. If we add one we will name it here and say what it receives.

Instrument sounds are downloaded from gleitz.github.io, a public sample host. Like any website, it sees your device's IP address. The app keeps a copy on your phone after the first download.

Cookies

Blend uses cookies that are necessary for it to work — keeping you signed in, and remembering your session. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.

Your rights

You can delete your account yourself, on the web or in the app, under AccountAccount→ Delete account. That deletes your progress, your daily runs and their leaderboard entries, any reports you filed, and then the account itself, straight away. It also asks RevenueCat to delete its record of any App Store subscription. Apple keeps its own record of the purchase. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. You cancel that in your iPhone's Settings.

You can also ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it for you. Write to hello@blendharmony.com and we will action it.

If you are in the UK or EU: our lawful basis for processing your account and progress is performance of our contract with you, and for the leaderboard it is your consent, which you give by submitting a run. Our processors are established in the United States and rely on their own standard contractual clauses for transfers. If you are in California, you have the right to know what we hold, to delete it, and not to be discriminated against for asking; we do not sell personal information.

Children

Blend is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
